Firstly, You’re NOT alone.

The degree to which the events and qualities of life that are experienced here on planet Earth are in any way connected, either causally, or as a correspondence with the heavily bodies, is, for me at least, always going to be an interesting question.

In my experience and observations (which run into the late hundreds when it comes to looking a charts and people) there does appear to be a correspondence between the movement and positioning of the planets and how peoples lives play out in the realm of form.

That said, I’m not one for making definitive statements as to exactly how these things will play out. It is more like a field phenomena, and it’s value, which will vary according to the temperament and attitude of the person using it, will vary wildly.

My general advice is this. Maybe you can use it like a map. It is like a two dimensional representation of a three dimensional space. It is a language. It only ever attempts to refer to an experience, and in due course, will never be the actual experience itself. Therefore, maybe it makes more sense to use it as a means to make sense of life – or more specifically, an aspect or a time of life – when other options are not working for you? Because the zodiac and its symbols represent a developmental process AND, what I will loosely refer to as archetypal fields of information, then they can be used as a shorthand. They can offer to give shape to the chaos, even if only for a while.

It’s not unlike the weather. The rain won’t stop me from going out, neither will the sun, but I will consider that my needs will vary if I am to venture out in either.

There are certain astrological cycles and aspects that I have found to correspond with certain events in my life. How or why this should be the case I continue to reserve judgement on. Living in a multidimensional universe (I am speaking in terms of physics and not in terms of metaphysics here) it seems entirely plausible that the planetary positions, and peoples states of being, may well be concurrent outward manifestations, in three dimensions, of processes that may well be occurring in dimensions at right angles to this one. Of course, how one would prove this remains beyond science to measure, but it is enough of a hypothesis to keep me open to astrology being ‘a thing’.

Then there is the question of HOW one interprets the signs. Some will look to the heavens to anticipate changes in the world – others will observe changes in themselves and use astrology to help them make more sense of themselves.

One point I would make to anyone using or thinking of learning astrology is this: Don’t get lost in the symbols or the language of it. The baseline is YOU and YOUR experience. Astrology is great when it great when it informs knowledge of self but can be a hinderance – and at worst a harm – when used as a substitute for it.

Another value of the zodiac can be a metaphor, as a poetic – or mythopoetic – structure, with which to overlay onto life and its processes – in so far and as long as it is valuable to do so.

As mentioned in the accompanying video, the zodiac can be read as a developmental process that contains a sequential logic. Aries to Taurus, the first two signs for example, go acting without thought – impulsive, instinctive action – not unlike that of an infant exploring an environment, to value, to what’s mine. The things of value that the infant discovers as a result of their explorations – of that which nurtures and appeals in contrast to that which does not – is the realm of Taurus. Combining then and communicating about then follows on in Gemini. This is a simple example. As stated earlier, the signs and planets represent fields of information and are not fixed. This means they can act as a map that can be laid over events and forms because, they correspond to natural laws and rules to which all things operate.

In addition, the planets themselves are part of the environment we exist in, and have evolved in. As symbols and signs they are embedded deep within the collective psyche at many levels. Whether we treat them as significant entities, whose movements across the heavens influence the course of events on earth, or, if we see them more as influencing the surface structure, such as the seven days of the week being names after the seven heavenly bodies visible to the naked eye, is a matter for personal consideration.

With all that said there does appear to be a pattern that emerges around the time of 28 to 30, during which people tend to either clear out the dead wood from their lives and double down on their chosen path, or they have a complete change. It is often a time of life where women can experience a strong urge to have children, especially if they haven’t done so already.

Whether it is written in the stars or not, naming the process in some form, giving it shape through time, can help. Not least because, if we do identify it as a Saturn return, then we can frame our experiences as temporary. We can use the themes it represents as an invitation to assess where we are at in our lives. Neither of these things require a belief in astrology, but rather, they utilise the language of astrology and use it to ask questions of ourselves, and to acknowledge that everything is in a state of transition and transformation. We accept day and night, and lunar months, and the passing of years, why not at least look at the cycles of planets and their motions and see if there is some resonance there.

Whatever way you look at it, while not everyone might notice or even experience significant transformations around this time, you can rest assured that you are not alone if you do.

Saturn or not, my wish for you is that whatever transition or transformation you are in, it leads you to a better place than where you were at before.
