Not everyone needs therapy, although I know plenty of people who have benefitted from gaining a more comprehensive understanding of the principles that are at play behind promoting and maintaining their own emotional and mental well being.
Some people benefit greatly from 1 to 1 therapy.
What prevents people form seeking therapy? For some it can feel like a weakness to seek help, so they struggle on, doing everything they can to try and fix the issue for themselves. For others it can be a question of efficacy and cost.
Most people who are experiencing mental or emotional issues that are causing them to suffer would pay for therapy at the drop of a hat if they knew for certain that it would work – and, more to the point that the effects would last.
I have had plenty of patients who have sought help prior to visiting me, in all manor of diverse places, only to have experienced either short term benefits, or no change at all. That is not to say that there aren’t some who did find solutions there. It is impossible to say for certain, but for some people, with some issues, 1 to 1 therapy serves them in the healthiest ways.
For such people, if they can overcome any stigma. or simple get to the end of their tether, or if they knew that therapy was going to work for them they would commit to the process with ease.
What often keeps people suffering unnecessary, when help is available, is pride and uncertainty.
It is a horrible place to be.
I know, because I have been there myself.
The clivecreative YouTube
Part of the function of the YouTube Channel is to share some of the theories and ideas that underpin parts of my practice, terms and ideas that, in a general sense, might prove to be of value to individuals engaged in personal development. While by themselves they are no substitute for psychotherapy, some of them might go towards helping people build a more functional frame of reference than the existing one they are using. Maybe.
The channel, at times, also contain invitations. These invitations are for viewers to consider applying in, or to, their own lives, especially where and when they can perceive a value to them. Essentially they are invitations to live well and how to approach that question for yourself.
They are not prescriptions. They are invitations to consider.
Also, the videos and blog posts exist to cover a range of information that may effectively help to reduce contact time in therapy or coaching with me for anyone who might, at some point realise a value in that for themselves.
Of course, this is not going to be applicable in all cases but it will in some, and for those to whom it does apply then it will likely prove to be a bonus.
